What is #local_learning?

Submitted by Beth K on

If you want to find out how you can change your community look no further than PCEI/MOSS AmeriCorps members Ashlee Fliney and Emma Woodworth. Together they are the hands of change that connect the McCall Outdoor Science School and Meadows Valley, McCall-Donnelly and Cascade School Districts.

You can follow their efforts on Instagram, #local_learning.

Emma and Ashlee travel to and work with the local teachers to bring hands-on learning and STEM education to students, building a connection between classroom content and community.

As this program has continued over the years we have seen some fantastic outcomes for teachers, students, and the community.

“The value of our Place-Based Education partnership has been far greater than any of us anticipated. It has provided a much-desired connection to not only our local environment but to our community at large. It has created an opportunity for students to connect with experts of the field, in the field. Because of the support we have received (training, manpower, and resources), we find ourselves able to provide students with greater quality and highly engaging environments in which to learn.” – Jamie VanMiddendorp, 3rd Grade BMES, 2018-2019

This program, which we identify at #local_learning could not be possible with our fantastic partners: McCall Donnelly School District, McCall Donnelly Education Foundation, Payette Children's Forest, Idaho Community Foundation Shelton Foundation, PCEI/AmeriCorps, and McCall Rotary Club

Thank you to everyone who continually works to improve our community.
